Summer Empties

It generally takes me quite some time to finish using products other than shampoo and conditioner, but this summer it seemed like everyday almost I was finishing off some other bath and body or skincare product. I have wanted to do an empties post for ages, soooo I took this as a sign to go ahead and bite the bullet and do the post.

This bunch of products were finished over the entire Summer season, and not just one months time. Moving forward I will try to do one a month to keep these posts shorter. This one is gonna be a doozy! I apologize in advance.

This is my massive bag of empties from the Summer.

So let’s get into the products shall we.

Whoa!

You see what I’m saying about the sign and all that…I will start with body products.

Bath & Body Works Fresh Picked Anti-Bacterial Gentle Foaming Hand Soap (Peaches & Tangerines) $5.50, Secret Flawless Renewal Invisible Solid (Completely Clean) $5.29, CeraVe Moisturizing Cream $14.99, Caswell-Massey Almond & Aloe Hand & Body Emulsion $14.00

There was a sale on at Bath & Body Works early in the Spring (like 5 for something), so I went for it and grabbed a few of their Anti-Bacterial Gentle Foaming Hand Soaps. I don’t think they make the Peaches version anymore. It looks like it has been replaced with Fresh Apricot. I like these a lot, but the Lemon one was my favorite. I happened to recycle that bottle before I could take these photos. They actually have the sale on right now for these (4 for $15 and 6 for $20).

The CeraVe Moisturizing Cream was given to me as a sample from my Dermatologist a while back and I just got around to using it. My hands were getting dry and cracked, so I needed something heavy duty. I. LOVED. This. Stuff! It moisturized well and sunk into my skin immediately. I hate greasy feeling lotions and this was not at all. I’d definitely purchase the full size of this.

Nothing glamorous about deodorant, and Secret is the only brand I will use after years of going through others. It just works best for me and the formula goes on dry with a nice clean scent. If I hadn’t picked up the wrong scent, I would have purchased this one again…that’s what happens when you have 2 kids in the store with you.

I got the Caswell-Massey Almond & Aloe Hand & Body Emulsion (whew that’s a mouth full) in a Glossybox over the summer. I used it as an all over body moisturizer. I love the scent and it sunk into my skin quickly leaving no greasy feeling. I’m not huge on body moisturizers generally speaking and I normally have tons of lotions lying around the house, so I probably wouldn’t run out and purchase the full size, but if I was in the market for a new one I may pick this up.

Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment SPF 15 $22.50, Lush Cosmetic Warrior Fresh Face Mask $6.95, vbeaute Eye Never Nourishing Repair Eye Cream $85.00, Algenist Complete Eye Renewal Balm $65.00, Ole Henriksen African Red Tea Foaming Cleanser $30.00, OXY Clinical Clearing Treatment $7.99, Estee Lauder Advance Night Repair $84.00

I got the mini Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment as the Birthday gift from Sephora and decided to give it a whirl. I never really thought about spending $22.50 for a lip balm before, so when I got the sample I figured it was a good time to try it. What can I say, this stuff lives up to the hype. It is crazy moisturizing and glides on your lips like a dream. It smells amazing with a slight lemony scent (I am obsessed over all things lemon, you will soon find out!). My mother in law sent me a full sized one for Mother’s Day this year and I went straight on to using that one after my mini ran out. I use it at night before bed and in the morning. I will be sad when the full size one runs out as it is pretty pricey.

Ah Lush…so much buzz about this brand on YouTube and online period. I actually hadn’t ever heard of it until my obsession with YouTube began. I do have a store near me, but I guess it just didn’t really stand out to me. Anywho, after hearing about their products for so long I wanted to try a Fresh Face Mask, but after trying my sister’s Mask of Magnaminty, I was scared! That one totally dried out and irritated my skin. So I read all of the descriptions online and decided to give Cosmetic Warrior a go. It is formulated for sensitive blemish prone skin…it was made for me! I liked this a lot. It was not over drying and did not irritate or break my skin out. The only thing I don’t like about it is the smell…ugh, garlic and eggs…esh! But I’d purchase this one again for sure. However, I have my eye on a different face mask to try first.

I ran out of eye cream about a month or so ago, so I figured I’d try this sample of vbeaute Eye Never that came in one of this Summers Glossyboxes. I looked at the prices for the full size products and thought this stuff should transform the skin under my eyes overnight…but alas it did not. What it did do was burn and sting and I think it was the culprit in making the skin under my eyes peel! Ouch! I didn’t notice result enough to deal with stingy peeling under eye skin.

The Algenist Complete Eye Renewal Balm that I got in a Birchbox way back when, was thick and moisturizing. The little tiny pot lasted forever! I liked how it felt on my skin. And it wasn’t irritating at all to my eyes. As for the price, it’s cheaper than the Kinerase stuff I’ve been buying, so I’d purchase this if I was in the market for an eye cream.

Ole Henriksen, I wanted to love you. I wanted us to become friends…But this I did not like. I should have known when it said “foaming” in the name. The African Red Tea Foaming Cleanser dried out my skin leaving it tight and itchy before I could even get out of the shower! But luckily my husband liked it and he finished it off for me. I did really love the smell though. I just wish it hadn’t disliked my skin so much.

Next up, OXY Clinical Clearing Treatment. This stuff has like a 5% Benzyl Peroxide solution in it. It’s great for those super spots that pop up on occasion, but it is just too much for my skin. I used to love this stuff, but as I’ve gotten older (gasp) and my skin has become more sensitive, I am steering away from this sort of thing. It just tends to dry my skin and make it flake. I also wouldn’t recommend this for use under makeup.

Finally for skincare, the cult classic Advanced Night Repair. I’ve wanted to try this for ages because I heard so many good things about it. Even the lady at the Estee Lauder counter said if she could only have one thing on a deserted island it would be this serum! I just don’t get what all the hype is about. I didn’t notice any difference in my skin and I use it for a good month. I wouldn’t spend $84.00 for this…maybe it’s just my skin type it doesn’t work for.

Le Chatelard 1802 Gel Douche (Lavande) $24.90*, Olay Silk Whimsy Moisturizing Body Wash with Rose Extract & Almond Oil $5.59, Lush Happy Hippy Shower Gel $9.95

The scent of this Le Chatelard 1802 Lavande shower gel was as natural as they come. It smelled exactly like lavender flowers in a field. It is quite herbal, so if you don’t like that you may not dig this, but it was nice. The gel felt nice and gave a great lather. It just wasn’t quite moisturizing enough for me. I would highly recommend it though if you don’t have super dry skin like I do and love the smell of lavender.

Nothing too exciting, but I needed a new shower gel, and I had a coupon for this Olay Silk Whimsy Moisturizing Body Wash (yes, I coupon…but not like the crazy lady’s on that Extreme Couponing show). This stuff smelled amazing! Anything with almond oil generally sucks me right in, and this was no exception. It wasn’t expensive but it was luxuriously moisturizing and lathered like a much more expensive product.

I absolutely loved the scent of this Happy Hippy Shower Gel, but it was not moisturizing for me at all. I took it on vacation with me to Florida in July and you’d think with the humid heat down there I wouldn’t need a moisturizing shower gel, but this was just too stripping for me. Sorry Lush, you win some, you lose some.

Up & Up Smoothing Shave Gel with Soy, First Aid Beauty Smooth Shave Cream $16.50

I liked this Up & Up shaving gel. It smelled nice and was moisturizing for my dry skin. I liked the price too (It is Target’s brand, and I think it was something like $3 – $4.). It says it is comparable to the Aveeno Active Naturals Positively Smooth Shave Gel. I’ve never used that so I can’t weigh in, but it was nice and I’d purchase it again.

The First Aid Beauty Smooth Shave Cream was another Glossybox sample. I know Fleur of FleurdeForce on YouTube talks about this brand a lot, so I was excited to get this in my box. I took this on vacation with me this summer also. It was great for travel. I’m not used to a shaving cream that doesn’t lather, so it took some getting used to. I thought this would be more hydrating than it was, but it was nice and wasn’t irritating at all on my legs while shaving. I think it would be great for those with sensitive skin.

Finally, we will end with hair. I’m not overly fussy over my hair…I do color it on occasion and have it cut like once every other year or so…But I generally am fine with drugstore shampoos and conditioners. I was introduced to Phyto through a Glossybox earlier this year and fell in love with their Phytojoba Intense Hydrating Mask. I plan to try more of their range someday. But I digress. Let’s wrap this thing up shall we!

Herbal Essences Body Envy Volumizing Shampoo $7.49, Garnier Fructis Color Shield Fortifying Conditioner for Color Treated Hair $3.99

The Herbal Essences Body Envy Volumizing Shampoo smelled yummy and fruity and it was hydrating, but I didn’t notice any extra volume. Just a run of the mill shampoo in my book. I’m pretty sure I got this on sale and with a coupon as well, so not a huge loss.

Garnier, I didn’t like this Color Shield Conditioner. The smell was like sweet tarts, and I’m not overly fond of those. But smell aside (I could have lived with that.) it didn’t hydrate or untangle my hair at all. As a matter of fact I felt like my hair was more stripped and damaged after using this than before. I went out and purchased some deep conditioner straight away!

Whew! That was a helluva ramble there. I’m sorry it was so long, and if you stuck it out to the end I applaud and appreciate you! I promise I will start doing these monthly so I don’t bore you guys to death. Thanks again for stopping by.

*This product was given to me free of charge to test out. I do work for the company that provided me with this product, but I was not paid to write a review on this blog. I have given my honest opinion after using the full product.

What did you use up this Summer? Do you find you go through more products in the warmer months or cooler months? Let me know if you have any recommendations for things you used up and ran straight out to repurchase!
